Before entering The Lab, each scientist was given an Experiment Bag. The stickers on bags identified the experiment teams and coordinated with the experiment rotation. Inside the bags were latex gloves & the boys used the bags to collect all of their experiments.

The boys examined their fingerprints with magnifying glasses. I was pleasantly surprised that these plastic magnifying glasses found at the dollar party store (6 for $1.00) actually worked!

This volcano cake was so easy to make. I layered a bundt cake, 9" round, dome cake & jumbo cupcake for the top. For the dry ice effect, I placed a drinking glass in the center of the bundt cake & hollowed out the center of the other cakes. The hollowed cupcake was placed on top after the dry ice was added. The red lava was made by melting hard candy & drizzling it on foil.

The last experiment of the party was the Mentos & Diet Coke Geysers. These were a HUGE hit! Each boy received a roll of Mentos & a 2-liter bottle of diet soda (store brand worked perfectly and was a fraction of the cost of Diet Coke). I had 3 geyser tube launchers, so the boys took turns setting off their explosive soda.

My daughter (going on 8) requested a Mad Science party.. Originally she wanted it at a Mad Science place.. however I have convinced her if we do it home it will be awesome. I came across your site doing my research.. I wanna say.. thanks! Looks like you did an incredible job! Thank you for sharing!
Wow, what a great party! You really had it planned out well! Where did you finally get the outfits for the kids?
Looks like a great party! I love the cake!
So amazing! Great job!
Did you happen to see that Family Fun had an entire article about Mad Scientist parties this month? One idea included a beaker shaped cake with fog coming out of the top. It was really cool. I love Family Fun, but I hate when I see good ideas when it's too late! But I still always want to see good ideas. They also had experiments to do with kids, and a big bowl of clear jello with plastic eyeballs and stuff floating in it!
I love your party! I did a Mad Scientist party for my daughter a few months ago and did a lot of research. Your party has some original ideas that I haven't seen before. Like Masked Mommy said, it's tough to see good ideas when it is too late.
I used men's undershirts and cut them up the middle for lab coats.
We also did Mentos Geysers with really cool geysertubes from Steve Spangler (http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/product/2072), made slime and atomic worms.
I wish I had seen your idea for goodie bags. Mine were not as exciting. Thanks for the cool post and pictures.
Oh my goodness!! What an awesome party! My kid is turning 6 in a month. I'm thinking he would love a party like this in about 2 years. Actually, he'd probably love it right now, but I think he would enjoy it more in a couple of years. I'm adding your awesome blog to my google reader!
What a great blog you have here! I featured you today on my blog, The Gift Closet. Feel free to snag one of my "I was Featured @ The Gift Closet" buttons for your blog. Have a great day! :)

What a great Party!
What website did you find the computer voices and which Cricut cartridge did you use for the decorations?
What a great party! Where did you get the dangerous substance stickers for the white bags?
That is so cool! I would've never thought to do a themed party with "Mad Scientist"! Looks like they loved it. :)
Blessings!

Wow - another fabulous party! What an original theme idea. I love it! The lab coats are such a perfect touch! I bet the boys loved all the science projects. Very well put together! Thanks for linking to the Celebration Party!
Another great idea! It's so hard to find good theme for boys!! :)
How fun!
Hi Brenda! I'm Featuring your party tomorrow! Thanks again for joining the Celebration Party!
My daughter is turning 10 and has requested a Mad Science party. Your site is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. So much detail going on; I don't know how you pulled it all together on your own. You should be a professional party planner. I would be really interested to learn the website for the voice ID upon entry that you mentioned and where you shopped for the supplies for the experiments, the lab coats and goggles and all of your decorations. I live in NJ and have tried some party stores and dollar stores, but no luck. Please email me at mirendl@yahoo.com with some suggestions. Again, thanks for sharing your work!
Very nice post and straight to the point. I am not sure if this is really the best place to ask but do you folks have any thoughts on where to employ some professional writers? Thank you :)
